Madeline O' Connor Fine Art Scholarship Award

oooh i'm all excited. on a whim, and on the last possible day i could, i entered to win Madeline O' Connor Fine Art Scholarship Award. I filled out the super simple paper work, and whipped up two paintings to be considered for this scholarship. check it out! second from the top; oh yeah!

by the way, congratulations to all the winners, y'all are amazing!
happiness and good karma to you all!

along with about three other (non-painting) pieces (which i will post later) i submitted these lovelies!

First: my splendorous strawberry, inspired by my fellow scholarship winner: Sarah Smith.

this piece was done using the left over paint from the palate of my next piece:

i know, looks familiar right? I've gotten a lot of good feed back from people about Aaron's piece, so why not make a Scar to his Mufasa? everything should come in pairs, yin and yang my friends, yin and yang.

anyways, once again congrats to the winners above, and i bid y'all adieu.
follow if you love happiness, and don't forget to take the poll.

crazy hourse cousin/commission

sometimes cousins and commissions go hand in hand.
this is ever so true of my newest painting, for Aaron R.
(yes, i do know a shit load of aarons)
Aaron wanted the first "Crazy Horse" when i made it, but it got sold before he could grab it up,
so he commissioned me for a custom made one, just for him.

looking at the original, briefly, i made a sketch

making a few adjustments to the original design, and choosing a new color palate, to make it individual to him, took a bit longer than i thought. i'm kinda persnickety about my color palates
a few hours and some some silly ceramic jokes later voila!:

i like this design, i think i might need to perfect it.
more crazy horses soon!

alright the poll shows that i need to post 3 paintings per post, so this is going to be a weekly thing. awesome! don't forget to follow and comment!

happy birthday bro!

this last sunday, my older bro turned the big 2-0 and for his birthday i painted him a lion.
that's right, a freaking lion, something i've never drawn before, or thought of trying, but check this out.

this is the pic that served as model for the original sketch

this is shortly after i started painting, after i made the original sketch and did a charcoal transfer
see that easel?

after a while of staring at canvas and paint, eating m&ms and making Lion King jokes in my head: voila!

i love it, so freaking ferocious! and kind of realistic, aside from my use of vibrant colors.
and Aaron agreed with me.

it's ok, don't worry i saved him from the lion's jaw.

i'm kinda proud of myself on this one, he's been asking for a lion for a while and i didn't think i could do it, and i was able to just pump it out! i'm excited about what this is going to mean for commissions and such. come the summer i'm gonna go effin' crazy, but until then, i've got a english exam to go ace. see you guys later.

edit: a cousin of this original piece won a scholarship.

the seguin show

i finally get to post something about the Seguin show!
here are the pics of the set up:

as much as i love the sun, it was in the way. above the unluft squid, is the three palate monsters.

the view from the left side of the second wall

the view of the right side of the second cafe wall (my favorite picture)

these are my some twenty paintings for the show at ChiroJava in seguin.
i had a week to make around 20 paintings, luckily i had 3 already done (shown first).
i managed to get them done, and cataloged with the help of my two favorite people:
Aaron & Kim G. i love those kids!
Three done already:

self portrait II

lover birds II

Cat Toy

Paintings that had to be touched up:

suicidal leaves

an emotional puzzle

Cousins made for the show:

Zoo Reject II

Uncut II

Together III

Uninspired II

Flying Purple Onion II

Fatted Calf II

Grenade II

Fudge Pop II

Originals that managed to get done:

Unluft Squid

Grapes

Rotten Tooth

King of Teeth

Palate Monsters from this trip:

Palate Monster IV

Palate Monster V

Palate monster VI

i know, most of the show are cousins and redos, but with the amount of time i had this was and is quite a feat. that i even got originals made is amazing, for me.
i'd like to thank Kim and Aaron G. again, because without them i'd probably have never made the deadline, and i'd be all depressed. i can't wait for y'all's victorian gallery!

a work in progress

i'll post more pictures of it, when i'm finished (this fall?) but here's the first chapter of my literal
"sketch book". i magically found this book in the middle of the road, and i just HAD to draw in it, because i'm that weird.
the first chapter was about naval heads (bathrooms). i didn't know they were talking about bathrooms shared with about 100 different men, i thought they meant...HEADS. so what did i draw, you guessed it! well after the delicate title page ...

that's right i ripped out a window >:D

i'm not really that gifted with anatomy, but i'm getting better and male heads and necks woo!
next chapter, vegetables!

Random paintings and what inspired them

i have the words "ocala demands" stuck in my brains.
comment below if you know what those are.
you'll win some cool points.

anywho, i don't have much time to spend on this today, because i have a shit load of writing to do before tomorrow, so here's the skinny on some random paintings, tomorrow i'll post pics of the show in seguin.

title:"uncut"
inspiration: my inability to let "someone" go, (but since i never am going to take to "someone" again i should make another one called "severed for good")

title: there's always a bigger fish
inspiration: can't find the original scene but this works

title: "melancholic"
inspiration: don't be sad baby!

title: "it's an emotional organ"
inspiration: people use the heart in the sense that it dictates emotion ( that guy is heartless )
but all it does is regulate blood flow. this is how i would depict the heart if it generated emotions, the way people perceive it does.

Title: "Grenade"
Inspiration: one of my favorite artists

title: "Fatted Calf"
inspiration: the way my feet look when wearing high heels

title: "Crazy Horse"
inspiration: nothing more than pure boredom in my chemistry class. (there you go Aaron R.)

now to go write a rough draft for a research paper that due tomorrow.
remember kids, procrastination is a horrible friend.
